Six years ago a stroke left Ahsure Montague paralyzed on his right side. Beyond the profound physical effects of the stroke, Ahsure understandably fell into what he calls a “depressive funk.”
“It was the rehab staff and the CNAs who pushed me and helped me get my life back,” he recalls. “When the staff shows me photos from six years ago, I can’t believe I’m looking at myself.”
Today Ahsure walks with only the assistance of a cane. A long-term resident of CNR, he has a private room, participates in all kinds of recreational activities, exercises daily and continues to root on his favorite New York sports teams.
He’s also a past president of CNR’s resident council.
“Who would have believed that I could walk around the neighborhood? Six years ago, I couldn’t even get out of bed.
“Boy, have I come a long way.”
