Alzheimer’s/Dementia

Alzheimer’s Disease, which affects more than four million adults in the U.S., is the most common form of dementia. Alzheimer’s Disease is a brain disorder that impairs an individual’s ability to think, remember and make decisions. With Alzheimer’s, which usually develops in people 60 and older, plaque accumulation kills nerve and brain cells, causing a steady decline in memory and cognitive abilities.

Although at first glance it may seem that the disease has robbed an individual of their sense of self, this is not always the case. Even though individuals with dementia may experience an altered sense of self, the essence of who they are can still be brought forth with understanding and specialized care. With proper care, their feelings, emotions and memories can be more fully realized. It’s their ability to access this sense of self that now becomes the challenge. Working through this challenge is a process that is unique to every individual. At CenterLight Health System, we strive to slow the progression of dementia, help the individual with their daily activities, and enhance their quality of life.

We offer residential care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in our four skilled nursing facilities. Our caring staff assists individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia with daily living activities, such as bathing, feeding and toileting, and provides them with specialized recreational activities, while maintaining their dignity. We have two floors designated for dementia patients and offer them a specialized music therapy program.

Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation’s medical model Adult Day Health Care program offers adults who are chronically ill or in need of health monitoring access to rehabilitation therapy, nursing care, social work services, therapeutic recreation and assistance with personal care. We also offer a specialized program for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and are open six days a week including Saturdays. We also have an evening program for individuals with dementia. We offer a support group for families and caregivers of loved ones with dementia.
